CLOSE to 150 swimmers on Doddi's Beach for the Mandurah Masters Swimming Club’s annual Australia Day ocean swim.
The event started and finished at the Old Mandurah Yacht Club and was supported by the Mandurah Marine Rescue Group and the Mandurah Paddling Club.
The main two-kilometre event was won 43-year-old Thornlie resident Damien Eyre, and Lyle Kildea, a 58-year-old from Baldivis, won the women’s event.
The youngest swimmer, 12-year-old Adraan Van Zyl of Parklands won the 1km event.
Mandurah Masters Swimming Club’s 88-year-old member Rod Baker knocked off a lot of swimmers his junior to place a credible 103rd.
Following the event a flotilla of decorated boats assembled for their annual Australia Day Celebrations and sail past in the estuary.
