AUSTRALIA’S Got Talent finalists Cameo Rascale are in town and here to stay with a bag of tricks to get Mandurah residents juggling, stilt walking and rock climbing.
The family of four made it to the final eight acts in Channel 7’s Australia’s Got Talent competition in 2009 and have since been living in Mandurah working on their next project.
Hoping to unveil Mandurah’s first indoor rock climbing wall and circus training centre on Australia Day next year, dad Steve Capener said it was “well overdue”.
“Mandurah has needed this for a long time,” he said.
“Now people don’t have to go to Perth.”
The centre will be managed by Steve and Gayle Capener’s daughter Nicole who has been trained by her parents since the age of four.
“I’m passionate about rock climbing and I’ve wanted to open my own centre for a while,” she said.
Nicole’s brother James will help out teaching juggling, tumbling and more when he isn’t entertaining the world on a cruise ship.
Both teenagers said they enjoyed growing up on the road with their parents and couldn’t wait to teach the Mandurah community what they had learnt over the years.
“The stuff we do at the centre is a really good way to build confidence for kids,” Nicole said.
“They build on their skills and it’s fun.”
Mr and Mrs Capener have been teaching at Austin Cove Baptist College and will continue to do so but said they were excited to work with the wider community.
“With the ten week circus skills course we will be extending what we do at Austin Cove to the wider community,” Mr Capener said.
The Mandurah indoor Rock Climbing Centre will open on Australia Day. Bookings can be made by calling 9581 4765. Opening hours are 2pm-9pm on weekdays and 10am-9pm weekends.
