Students, parents and teachers at two Peel schools have been recognised by the State Government for encouraging safe and active travel.

Warnbro and Lakelands primary schools were announced as TravelSmart to School winners on Thursday.
Warnbro took out the TravelSmart school of the year with Lakelands the best new school runner-up.
The winning schools worked with the Department of Transport to introduce a range of activities, events and rewards to increase active transport use within their school community.
Warnbro Primary School TravelSmart mentor Arlene Yates said she was mighty proud to score top marks at the awards.
“With the help of teacher Betty Riley the students organised competitions and campaigns to reinforce road safety,” she said.
Lakelands Primary School principal James Bell said an exciting activity the school’s TravelSmart coordinator Amy Hughes organised was Footprint Friday.
“The students were encouraged to ride, scoot or walk to school and if they did they received a ticket which went into a prize draw,” he said.
“We were very excited to win the award.”
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the schools were easing peak hour morning and afternoon traffic problems experienced at many schools.
"Walking or riding to school with the kids instead of jumping in the car is a win-win for the whole family,” he said.
Mr Nalder said the 31 schools participating in the program last year reduced their car use on average by nine per cent and increased walking, cycling and public transport use by 12 per cent.
“These small changes can make a big difference," he said.
