Police charged a man near a Mandurah burglary hot-spot on Monday night after he attempted to escape officers by fleeing on foot.
About 10:30pm the officers were on patrol in areas known to be targeted by burglars when they saw a white van on Mandurah Terrace near Reserve Drive.
The officers tried to stop the vehicle, however police allege the driver drove off in an attempt to escape.
The vehicle was followed by police through a few streets, before it pulled into a dead end.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, heading towards a beach access pathway.
The officers chased him on foot and arrested him nearby.
A 37-year-old man from Coodanup was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, failing to stop and driving without authority.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
