MADI Molloy’s diagnosis is almost as long as she is.
But that doesn’t mean the 11-year-old won’t fight it with everything she’s got.
Diagnosed in February 2014 with stage four glioblastoma, Madi has been through 10 rounds of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation.
She has had two surgeries and been told there was nothing more doctors could do to help her.
But that was before renowned surgeon Charlie Teo stepped in.
Now the Secret Harbour girl is preparing for further surgery, and while she said she was “a bit scared”, Madi is looking forward to putting cancer behind her for good.
Her parents, Natalie and Bryan, have spent close to $100,000 on treatment for their little girl so far.
But how do you put a price on a child’s life?
You don’t.
“We’re not giving up,” Mrs Molloy said.
“We’ll do anything to fight it.”
Last week Mr and Mrs Molloy took Madi to meet Dr Teo in Sydney.
In five weeks he will review Madi’s case and decide whether he will operate on the slow-growing brain tumour.
It’s her only hope.
But Madi is a girl filled with optimism.
When asked if she was ready for the fight of her life, she simply said, “It’s already begun”.
Madi said she wanted to be a neuro nurse when she grew up, thanks to an inspiring nurse who beat the same cancer when she was a child.
“If I don’t become a nurse I would like to be a teacher,” she said.
“And next year I want to start playing netball.”
