THREE dangerous black spots on local roads will be fixed after funding was announced for the projects.
Canning MHR Don Randall revealed more than $800,000 in Federal funding for the approved Black Spot Program projects, which are:
Paterson Road from 220 metres south to 1.72 kilometre north of Old Mandurah Road in Ravenswood; $360,000 will be spent to widen the road to a 9m seal including a 1m sealed shoulder with painted edge line and 1.5m gravel shoulders on both sides.
Paterson Road from South Western Highway to 1.83km north in Pinjarra; $345,000 will go to widen the road to a 9m seal including a 1m sealed shoulder with edge lines and 1.5m gravel shoulders on both sides.
The intersection of Allnutt Street East and Dower Street in Mandurah; $109,000 will be spent to modify the traffic control signals to install a right-turn arrow (without filter).
Mr Randall said this investment in black spot projects will deliver safer and more efficient roads for people in the Peel region.
“Black spot projects target dangerous roads to save lives and reduce road trauma, ensuring the Peel road network is safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,” he said. “The good thing about the Black Spot Program is that anyone can suggest an intersection or section of road in Canning that they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade.”
Jamie Briggs, assistant minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, said an extra 42 black spot projects will be funded in Western Australia over 2015-16.
“These extra projects are expected to save an additional five lives and prevent 256 injury crashes over 10 years,” he said. “They will also deliver economic dividends of around $80 million.”
