The Western Australian Rabbit Council is hosting a Pet a Bunny Day at Bunnings Mandurah to educate people on what is involved with owning one.
“A lot of people give them as presents over Easter,” Rachel Cooper, club member said. “They’re a fickle animal that are not as easy to look after as you think.
“They need input just like any other pet and if they’re left along all day, they get bored.”
“They live for 10 years so it’s a long commitment,” Melanie Mackrill, club member said.
The Western Australian Rabbit Council is open to all ages and encourages children to get involved with showing and breeding the animal.
The club will be at Bunnings from 9am-4pm on Saturday with at least 12 different types of rabbits, including a German lop, a mini lop and a dwarf lop.
“There will be long and short-haired, uppy and lop-eared bunnies, big and small ones,” Ms Mackrill said. “We will also be grooming them there so people can get information on that as well. So the day will be not all about touching and feeling the bunny but watching and being educated on how to look after one.”
