A MANDURAH woman convicted of cannabis possession with intent to sell or supply narrowly avoided a prison term when she faced Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Annette Maree Weston pleaded guilty to four drugs charges which related to a September 25 police search of her home.
Uncovered during the search were 24 clipseal bags containing 43.1 grams of cannabis, $1035 cash which was understood to be proceeds from drugs, 55.8 grams of cannabis for “personal use” and a smoking implement.
The court heard the 55-year-old disability pensioner had a history of bad health and used cannabis as pain relief.
A verbal pre-sentence report described Ms Weston as “terrified of going back on prescription medication”.
Magistrate Joe Cicchini referred to cannabis as a “dangerous drug” and warned Ms Weston another conviction would see her facing the prospect of a jail term.
Ms Weston was placed on a 12-month intensive supervision order with program requirements and reporting conditions.
The cannabis and smoking implement was ordered to be destroyed and the cash was forfeited to the State.
