TWO dog-loving residents have raised more than $5000 for the K9 Rescue Group.
Mary Kartesz-Wardorper and Alan Wardorper opened their home up over Christmas, allowing people to walk through and look at their festive decorations.
It was all in the name of charity, with a donation box placed out to fundraise for the dog rescue centre which collected $5203.20.
“This is the third year we’ve done this for K9,” Mr Wardorper said.
“We’re both dog lovers and both our dogs are rescues.”
Every room of the house was decorated – as well as the front and back gardens – with the snowing Christmas tree proving to be a crowd favourite.
In total it took two and half months to set up and will take about two months to pack away again.
But the couple said it was all for a good cause.
“We’re currently doing restorations at K9 and we have new kennels which opened last year,” Carolyn Carter from K9 Rescue Group said.
“But we think the money will go towards a puppy crèche because we have a lot of puppies recently and they can’t stay in the normal kennels; we need to have a special space for them.
“They are in the volunteer centre at the moment but it would be nice if they had their own spot.”
Mrs Kartesz-Wardorper and Mr Wardorper said they were not the only ones to thank for the fundraising event.
“We’d like to thank the many visitors with their generous words and special gifts to Santa and Mrs Claus [Mrs Kartesz-Wardorper and Mr Wardorper],” Mr Wardorper said.
“Also a special thanks to friends for all their help behind the scenes.”
