A MANDURAH student who graduated from high school last year has been named in the top 40 students in the state.
Former Frederick Irwin Anglican School student Samuel Alsop was awarded a General Exhibition award, which is based on a scaled score of five subjects from the humanities/social sciences list and mathematics/science list.
He also claimed a Certificate of Distinction for chemistry, mathematics, mathematics specialist, physics and a Certificate of Commendation.
Samuel gained an ATAR of 99.95, the highest possible score, which he said he was pretty happy with.
“I was a bit nervous when I was looking, but when I found out I was so pleased,” he said.
“I find maths and sciences easier subjects.
“I did a lot of practice exams and that helped a lot to get into the style of exams.
Samuel said doing those practice exams were one of the reasons he received the maximum ATAR.
“During the year you can revise notes but the reason I find doing questions helps is because you are doing what you get in exams,” he said.
Samuel said he wants to study a bachelor of philosophy majoring in chemistry at the University of Western Australia this year.
He said he will find out if he gets in on January 16.
