The works began in March and all pools have now been demolished and construction works have begun, with the installation of Geothermal Heating is currently underway.
Stage One will result in significantly increased water space for aquatic activities (from 900sqm to more than 2400sqm), new toilet and change room facilities and increased parking.
Stage one includes a new 50-metre outdoor pool, a new leisure pool and change room village, refurbishment of the existing 25m lap pool, a new clubroom facility and an indoor aqua playground
The stage two master plan was endorsed by Council in October.
A design and construct method has been recommended as being the most cost and time effective option for stage two which has a budget of $15m.
Stage two will include upgrades and refurbishments to the sports stadium and health and fitness facilities.
These include two additional multi-purpose sports courts (including a show court with spectator seating), a new administration facilities for Mandurah Basketball Association, a new male and female toilets and change rooms, a new gymnasium and group fitness rooms, upgrades to the foyer, café and reception area and upgrades to the crèche and new administration offices
Mayor Marina Vergone said the redevelopment of the MARC will meet the growing needs of the community for the next 20 years.
“The extensive redevelopment and refurbishment will provide a modern, integrated sporting, aquatic and recreational facility,” she said.
