ELECTRONIC billboards will be erected on the Kwinana and Mitchell freeways as part of a plan to fund road safety and traffic congestion initiatives.
In an announcement by Transport Minister Dean Nalder, four sites on the two freeways will be installed later this year and early next year.
According to Mr Nalder, "stringent selection criteria" was applied to the four billboard points to make sure the stand-alone infrastructure was not placed at critical driver decision-making points such as interchanges and merging sections.
Three sites have been selected along the Mitchell Freeway, near Hepburn Avenue, Hutton Street and Warwick Road with a fourth site selected on the Kwinana Freeway south near Berrigan Drive.
APN Outdoor (Trading) Pty Ltd has been awarded the 10-year contract to provide electronic billboard advertising at the sites with the billboards to also be used to inform motorists of major incidents ahead on the freeway network to "assist them in adapting their journey accordingly".
“The company will design, construct, install and operate the billboards at four sites, with an option to install four more billboards within the freeway reserve,” Mr Nalder said.
