WITH two games remaining in the Peel Football League season there is an interesting battle taking place in the Colts division.
Baldivis and Rockingham look to have stitched up the top two places with the sides three and two wins clear of Halls Head in third position but who finishes on top is still up for grabs.
Mathematically Rockingham could be passed if they lose their remaining two games but they would also have to lose by over 100 points in each for Halls Head to close the percentage gap which stands at over 50 per cent.
However, who finishes on top of the ladder and automatically makes it to a preliminary final is still anyone’s guess.
Baldivis have a difficult run home playing fourth-placed Mandurah this weekend.
If Baldivis lose Rockingham is likely to move to top spot with the Rams coming up against the lowly Centrals, who have won just two games, this weekend.
That would make it a very interesting final round.
Rockingham has a difficult match-up with Halls Head while Baldivis come up against the sixth-placed South Mandurah who looked to have blown their finals chances following a loss to Waroona in the last round.
If both teams win it could come down to by how much, Baldivis trail Rockingham in per cent but a big win could see them close that gap.
What is known is that both teams would want to finish on top of the ladder so both will be throwing everything at their opposition.
However, the battle for first isn't the only tussle taking place.
The fight for third place and the second chance that comes with it is fierce.
Three teams, Halls Head, Mandurah (both 10 wins) and Waroona (nine wins) are all in the hunt.
Halls Head have a tricky game against South Mandurah this weekend which is followed by a game against Rockingham in the final round.
Halls Head have won one of their two games against South Mandurah this season and are yet to defeat Rockingham this year.
Mandurah come up against top-placed Baldivis this weekend which is followed by a game against Waroona.
What goes against Mandurah is that they have lost their last three games by an average of 52 points.
One of those games was against Waroona which they lost by 45 points.
Waroona is the dark horse out of the three teams; they may be a win behind but have a superior percentage.
If Waroona can defeat Mandurah and Halls Head lose a game they are in prime position of stealing third position with the side likely to defeat bottom-placed Pinjarra this weekend though they are the only side who has lost to Pinjarra this year.
South Mandurah is still a mathematical chance of playing finals but would have to rely on Waroona losing both their games by a significant amount and win their remaining two games against Halls Head and Baldivis which seems unlikely.
The outcome of the finals placings is likely to be somewhat clearer after this round of football.
