ARREST:
Unfortunately the biggest news to come out of Glasgow for Australia overnight is the arrest of an athlete.
A member of the Australian Commonwealth Games team has been detained by police over an alleged altercation at the athletes' village in Glasgow early on Wednesday morning.
Fairfax Media understands the athlete is Francois Etoundi who won a bronze medal in the 77kg class weightlifting.
Police Scotland said in a statement on Wednesday that a 29-year-old man had been detained after police responded to a report of a disturbance at the 35-hectare village, located nearby Celtic Stadium in the city's east end.
DIVING:
Australian diver Matthew Mitcham has claimed the Commonwealth Games one-metre springboard silver medal in Edinburgh on Wednesday night.
England's Jack Laugher snatched gold (449.90 points) on his final dive, relegating Beijing Olympic 10m platform winner Mitcham (404.85) to silver and Australia's Grant Nel (403.40) took the bronze.
NETBALL:
Another great win for the Diamonds overnight.
A nail-biting win over England aside it was been predictably plain sailing for the world champion Diamonds in the preliminary round, coasting to straightforward wins over Wales, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and overnight, a 24-goal victory over South Africa.
They now head into the final four - either defending champion New Zealand or Jamaica are in their immediate path.

BOXING:
But a distraught Jai Opetaia was left speechless after he departed the Commonwealth Games boxing tournament following a lacklustre performance in his heavyweight (91kg) bout with Nigeria's Efetobor Apochi.
It was a largely difficult day for Australia in the SECC ring before women's lightweight Shelley Watts flew the flag late with a barnstorming stoppage of Isabelle Ratna from Mauritius to move through to the semi-finals in blistering style.
Earlier, Opetaia was too upset to speak with the media after the unanimous decision, in which he won the first round but faded badly as his more physical opponent wore him down over the final two rounds.
HIGH JUMP:
Eleanor Patterson jumped 1.94m on the Gold Coast before she left Australia. She won gold at the World Youth Games last year she went on to jump 1.96m only months later – the highest jump by a 17-year-old anywhere, ever.
Overnight she allowed others to jump at lesser heights before peeling off the tracksuit when the bar reached 1.81m.
Wearing long tights for the cool Scottish summer day as cold as a Leongatha winter afternoon she cleared the height by, oh, 20cms. The second jump was at 1.85m and again she loped over the bar with a minimum of effort.
She's now through to the final along with fellow Australians Zoe Timmins and Hannah Joye.
DISCUS:
Benn Harradine’s defence of his discus gold medal was auspicious for the fact he qualified with a 61.06m throw then had to hurry from the field because he had been stung by a bee. Julian Wruck also squeezed through with a 59m throw.
LONG JUMP:
Margaret Gayen qualified for the final in the long jump with a jump of 6.34m.
800M:
Brittany McGowan qualified for the 800m final with an exceptionally good run of 2:03.08mins. In a tough heat she was among the front runners and finished third.
