Deputy Mayor Darren Lee said over the past two years the accord had made some significant achievements including the introduction of a number of public safety and community programs.
“The City is committed to the Liquor Accord and we are continually monitoring the situation and reassessing resources as necessary,” he said.
“The accord is an important outcome of the City of Mandurah’s 2011-16 Community Safety and Crime Prevention Partnership Plan.”
The accord is made up of 27 member organisations including the City of Mandurah, represented by Cr Lee and councillor Peter Jackson, WA Police, Mandurah Taxis and local business operators.
Some of the major projects the accord has implemented include the Safer Mandurah Taxi Ranks, NBN-based CCTV cameras and family friendly foreshore signage.
It is also supportive of a new local volunteer service called Street Chaplains, which is aimed to begin in Mandurah towards the end of the year.
This program has been successfully rolled out in parts of the Perth metropolitan area and other regional centres.
Street Chaplains involves volunteers providing care to the public visiting local night spots, ranging from issuing first aid kits and thongs to helping people get home safely.
