BRAND electorate senator Michaelia Cash has called on residents to nominate sections of road they believe to be dangerous.
The call comes on the back of $126,000 in funding to fix known ‘black spots’ in the Brand electorate, however none of that funding was been allocated to those suburbs in the City of Mandurah.
Three grants totalling $126,000 were given to the two Warnbro intersections and a one in Rockingham despite Madora Bay, Lakelands, Meadow Springs, San Remo, Greenfields and parts of Mandurah included in that electorate.
Senator Cash said the investment in Black Spot projects would deliver safer roads for Brand through targeted upgrades proven to deliver results.
“Black Spot projects target dangerous roads to save lives and reduce road trauma, ensuring our local roads are safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,” she said.
“Anyone can suggest an intersection or stretch of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade, and we strongly encourage all councils and individuals to submit their nominations.”
Further information and nomination forms for black spot intersections can be found at investment.infrastructure.gov.au/funding/blackspots/index.aspx
A recent evaluation of the programme found that fatal and casualty crashes were reduced at treated sites by 30 per cent, equalling one life per year for every 84 projects.
