WAROONA will have a distinguished guest on Sunday, with Elliot Hall, owner of Elliot Hall Enamels travelling from the United Kingdom to visit Drakesbrook Antiques and Collectables.
Owners Bill and Malar Fraser said they were excited for the visit and expected lots of people from across the state to attend.
“He’s got a strong following of collectors,” Mrs Fraser said.
Mr Hall creates small jewellery box- and jar-type containers and other unique shapes out of copper, starting with a thin disk and using different spinning tools.
Pressure is applied to the copper to give it the desired shape.
The containers are then hand-painted with unique designs.
Mr Hall will discuss his One of One Catalogue Collection that were made exclusively for the visit to Waroona, including many Australian-themed designs.
The Australian designs include banksias, desert peas, rosellas and koalas.
“We submitted ideas to him of what designs we thought would sell in Australia but we still sell lots of the English designs as well.”
Mr Fraser said the Australian designs had also been popular with international buyers.
Mr Hall will give informal talks from 11am-4pm relating to his One of One collection and will demonstrate the methods used by his company to create the works of art.
The Frasers discovered Elliott Hall Enamels when they decided to seek out modern pieces of art in England to sell in their store.
“We found lots of tiny companies in England that were run out of sheds but produced beautiful pieces,” Mr Fraser said.
“We wanted to find really good quality work and introduce those businesses to the Australian market.
“Elliot Hall has sold really well here and to say thanks he is making the trip over.”
Mr Hall will also visit two other vendors in New South Wales and Victoria that stock his wares.
Mr Fraser described Mr Hall’s works as “the antiques of the future” and said collectors were from all ages and walks of life.
“Collectors from all over the world have been bombarding us with emails since they found out Elliot Hall is coming here – there’s even someone from New Zealand flying over to the Victorian store to meet him.”
Drakesbrook Antiques and Collectables was started by the Frasers in 1999 at the old Bank of New South Wales office.
The business is also an agent for Moorcroft Pottery and Charlie Bears.
Anyone who wishes to attend should contact Drakesbrook Antiques and Collectables on 9733 1540 or head to 85 Southwestern Highway, Waroona.
