There are just so many other things I would prefer to do than watch some people run around a field or the like.
But there is one time of the year which I’m actually excited to see a major sporting event come around.
Don’t get me wrong; I couldn’t give a hoot about the actual sport part of the Super Bowl.
I would much rather see actual horses and sea hawks then see sweaty men turn a one-hour game into a three and a half hour one.
A quick game is a good game fellas.
But with the Super Bowl comes the advertisements and the half-time show.
The 30-second and one-minute clips that fill the spaces between plays and cost many millions of dollars to make and air are like mini movies to me, which I rewatch throughout the year.
And the day they announce who is taking over the much-coveted half-time show for the year is like Christmas to me, and the performance itself, well it’s Christmas with fireworks.
This year did bring some disappointment however.
Bruno Mars was amazing with his almost floating drum kit, 10-centimetre high hair and dancing musicians – who by the way must have been especially chosen so they weren’t taller than the singer.
But when support act Red Hot Chili Peppers came on stage I became disinterested.
Who wants to see old guys wearing meggings (male leggings), without shirts on when it’s five degrees.
Now that’s a fashion faux pas if ever I saw one.
And reports are coming out that their upper bodies were not the only things feeling the breeze, with Flea and Josh Klinghoffer both apparently playing air guitar during the performance.
Although I will admit their rendition of Give it Away was well-timed considering Denver’s 43-8 loss, next time I would rather not see the Red Not-so-hot ‘Chilly’ Peppers performing it.
