LOCAL resident Kerry Perz thought outside of the box when creating her new business, to make something as yet unheard of in Mandurah.

Something Raw opened its doors for the first time on Monday, ready to offer the Gibson Street café’s new clientele a healthier option.
The latest edition to what Ms Perz refers to the health food precinct takes familiar menu items, such as pizza, tacos and pasta and makes them unusual.
Nothing in the café is cooked.
“Eighty to 100 per cent of our dishes are organic and it’s 100 per cent raw,” Ms Perz said.
“There’s no dairy, gluten or wheat in any of the dishes.”
The vegan and vegetarian menu was inspired by a hole in the market spotted by Ms Perz and her husband Peter Broad.
The couple said they were sick of the same sorts of food offered by most of Mandurah's restaurants.
“I wanted somewhere healthy to eat that had good food,” Ms Perz said.
“I was sick of having the same salads all the time.”
Some experimenting later and Something Raw was born; a café where everything is made on premises – even the milk which is made from nuts.
But it was all about tasting and trying all new things for Ms Perz, who took to Google and raw food workshops in Fremantle and Pinjarra to hone her craft.
“It’s all about a new way of thinking,” she said.
“And it’s amazing how good the food can taste when it’s raw.
“It’s nice to have a cake without feeling too guilty and know there is not a whole heap of junk in it.”
Something Raw is at unit 1, 19 Gibson Street, Mandurah,.
