THE North Ward stretches from Silver Sands to Madora Bay and includes the north of Grennfields, Lakelands, Meadow Springs, Parklands, San Remo and the north of Mandurah.
There is one vacancy for the North Ward.
The candidates running for the position are:
Robert Burdett
I am currently employed in industrial safety and training, with a strong background in construction, mining and petro-chemical sector industries.
Living and working within the Mandurah area for 23 years has provided me with good local knowledge.
I am married with three children and four step-children and reside in Meadow Springs.
My connections with local communities are well founded, attending my local Anglican Church regularly since 1995.
Both my wife and I are qualified non secular counsellors, working with a variety of clients on a voluntary basis.
The North Ward is expanding at considerable pace; there is need for a strong and unbiased voice to represent the interests of all residents.
Interconnecting local public transport definitely needs improvement.
Be assured my desire is to bring about positive representation.
When elected; open lines of communication will always be maintained, together with bi-monthly community forums, allowing residents to voice direction and opinion.
Sian Gair
I have lived in Mandurah for over 20 years having moved to this area for the opportunities for raising a family.
During this time I have worked as a registered nurse and a TAFE and university lecturer.
I have a Bachelor of Psychology and have worked with youth, community development and local governments.
I volunteer on a number of boards and take part in various fund raising initiatives including Soroptimist International, an organisation improving the lives of women.
I am running for council as I understand the impact local government decisions have on people lives and I would ensure that all decisions reflect the best outcomes for residents.
My experiences have shown me the importance of healthy safe communities and would like the opportunity to use my skills to ensure all decision take every factor into account.
Good communities need more than houses and the North Ward requires services and improved traffic management.
Mandurah is a great place for people to live and visit and I would like to see growth balanced with opportunities to ensure a unique Mandurah of the future.

I have lived in the Peel and been actively involved in the community since 2006.

I have many political, business, and social networks and am informed on a wide variety of issues.
I also work in the community in a mentor and training role to young people and married couples.
Our city coat of arms declares Unae Mentis - “Of One Mind”.
I believe there is tremendous strength in unity, and it is only in unity that we will triumph.
Therefore, I am committed to building bridges that empower social, business, and sporting organisations to link arms and release their full potential into our community.
A City that encourages local business growth, produces jobs for our kids, provides education they can use right here, and celebrates art and life with community events that bring the City together.
I have a vision for a thriving, flourishing city with a heart for its people.
Kathleen Newport
My name is Kathleen Newport; I am married with two adult children and two grandchildren.
I have lived in Mandurah for more than 25 years, currently working as an Advanced Skilled Enrolled Nurse in Immunisation with the Child and Adolescent Community Health Service.
I involve myself in community groups such as Mandurah Bowling Club, past president/current committee member of the Mandurah West Coast Eagles supporters for 19 years as well as supporting the Carolia Charity and Mandurah BMX club.
I am standing for the North Ward as I believe that the council should be making a stronger stand with issues such as law and order, cost of living pressures, affordable housing, completion of infrastructure projects, environment, youth services and look at ways of reducing the debt that the City has at present to name a few.
I am keen to work hard and provide a strong voice to improve our community which would make me an ideal councillor.
Neil Watson
I am a former TV and radio newsreader for the ABC, channel 7 and 9 Perth and journalist for the BBC, NZBC and CBC and currently the director of Mix Media Marketing.
I am a New Zealand-born Australian citizen (1983) and a resident of Meadow Springs.
I’m a keen lawn bowler, golfer and landscape photographer.
I want to represent the community’s views in a more democratic way than just relying on your Ward Councillors alone.
When elected, it’s my intention to introduce “Community Feedback Forums” via email, social media and shopping centre attendances to enable you to express your feelings and opinions.
I want to take a broad and consensual viewpoint to council.
It’s time to have your say on issues that directly affect you.
Some of the priority issues that I have had feedback on already from the community are: to seek more effective ways of working with the Police to combat crime and illegal drug use; preserve our delicate waterways and eco systems, it’s our and your children’s heritage; support and encourage small business through incentive schemes; keep a watchful eye on council rates and taxes – with your input; more community involvement with the City Centre development; and ensure sustainable and affordable housing in association with Developers.
