The Mandurah Magic men’s team dropped to fifth place on the State Basketball League (SBL) ladder after a two-point loss to top team Wanneroo Wolves on the weekend.
Mandurah made a quick getaway in the first half and applied major defensive pressure but were quickly caught by the late-starting Wolves 85-83.
Mandurah packed on the heat early with a 50-point first half as Wanneroo tried desperately to match them with 35 points.
But the tables turned after the mid-time break allowing the Wolves to gain the composure to sink their shots and unhand a top-four spot for the Magic.
Thomas Remmerswaal was the highest scorer for Mandurah with 24 points.
Aaron Trahair also helped the Magic with his own 20 points.
Wanneroo’s Greg Hire blitzed the court shooting 34 points and grabbing 17 rebounds while Damian Matacz helped his team overcome Mandurah with 27 points.
The Magic men will go head-to-head with ninth-placed Goldfield Giants at the Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium this Saturday for the last round of the SBL season.
The Magic women’s team were dominated all over the court against the first placed Wolves earlier on Friday night with another loss to finish their flop season.
The Magic lost 77-50 with Shelley Boston playing well and scoring 16 points.
