Silver Sands author Kathleen Colmer has illustrated what life was like in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in her self-published book titled Not All Things Last Forever – An Anthology.
The quirky book gives a snapshot of events, bands, food and fads that shaped yesteryear.
Covering a series of topics from the beetles to popular dishes of the decade the book capitulates the thoughts, feeling and actions of people across the particular decades.
Admitting she was a massive fan-girl of the Beatles, Ms Colmer said it was important for her to include how things like music affected people’s way of thinking and feeling.

While Ms Colmer has been planning to write the book for “several years” she only started writing two years ago.
“The idea originally came from my grandson who was talking to me one particular day and he asked me a question about doogs,” she said.
Doogs was the term used for marbles.
“It started me thinking that I need to write something about the things that we’ve done that have gone,” she said.
“And to keep them together in a book so that someone can pass it to their grandchildren.
“To leave a record of what we used to do.”
Ms Colmer has had 300 copies published and – if she receives greater interest – plans to publish more.
A lot of people have contributed to the final product, as Ms Colmer sought guidance from friends and family on topics she had little knowledge of but thought it vital to include.
“I’ve been able to talk to them, interview them and find out the facts,” she said.
“This is a factual book, it’s not a fiction, it’s a non-fiction, it’s true, it’s real.”
To celebrate the release of her book Ms Colmer will host a private book launch on November 26 to thank those who helped her bring her project to fruition.
The book is available for $22.
