Commissioner for children and young people Colin Pettit visited schools in the Peel region on Tuesday to discuss learning outcomes and implemented programs with students and teachers.
First stop on the schedule was Greenfields Primary School.
Greenfields Primary School principal Shannon Wright said it was great to host the commissioner at the school.
Mr Wright said the commissioner’s visit was fitting given data had recently been was collected on student’s learning outcome.
He was proud to announce and inform the commissioner that the school had recorded significant improvements.
“I always appreciate seeing positive outcomes from schools that are providing a wide range of opportunities for student learning,” Mr Pettit said in response to the strong results.

Mr Wright particularly highlighted a positive boost in reading comprehension.
He attributed the stronger overall results to teacher’s hard work and the school’s ability to implement programs cohesively across all classrooms.
During the Mr Pettit’s visit her sat down with students at the school’s library.
Mr Pettit asked the students several questions including what they enjoyed about their school.
In response, some students commented that they liked the friendships they could create with their peeps and teachers.
Others replied positively on technology, such as iPads and computers, they could use to assist them with their studies.
One student said they were very fortunate to have access to that type of technology as a lot of students in the world didn’t.
“The students I met in Mandurah were very complimentary about their schools and commented that their teachers were caring and the school provided a good range of learning activities,” Mr Pettit said.
“A number of young people mentioned that they would like to see more recreational activities for young people aged 10-15 within the Mandurah area, and this is something I will raise with the City of Mandurah.”
As well as Greenfields, Mr Pettit will also visit Coodanup and various service providers in the region.
Mr Pettit was appointed commissioner in November 2015 for a five year term.
