With the bumper year almost over, the Mandurah Mail is taking a look back at what made sports headlines in 2016.
Here is an overview of what we featured in our sports section in April.
What happened in April
RACING: The Peel region’s biggest horse race, the Pinjarra Cup, saw Lucy Warwick ride Zarantz to victory returning the odds of $3.30.
FOOTBALL: The Peel Football League kicked off its season with a number of blowout games.
BASEBALL: Local baseball prodigy Dylan McMile helped his under 15s team win Bronze at the South East Asia Youth Baseball and Softball Tournament in Bangkok.
FOOTBALL: Anthony Morabito made a return to the field, overcoming a serious hamstring injury to tally 23 disposals.
TRIATHLON: Reece Harris was picked to represent WA at the 2016 School Sport Australian National Championships in Hervey Bay, Queensland.
FOOTBALL: Baldivis picked up an 11-point win over Halls Head in a spirited Anzac Day clash between the two sides.
DIRT KARTS: South Yunderup’s Joe Chalmers made history when he claimed three of a possible four titles at the Ditchfield memorial dirt kart races held at the Dirt Trackers’ Kart Club.
TENNIS: Junior tennis stars were on show at the South Mandurah Tennis Club for their annual juniors tournament.
POOL: Steve Hale picked up the cue for Australia in a tournament in Blackpool.
