The Easter weekend is an important one for the Christian faith, but sadly it is also the one which sees the most fatalities on WA roads.
Christ’s Church Anglican Parish joined with the Mandurah RoadWise Advisory Group for the 2018 Blessing of the Roads on Sunday, to encourage road safety ahead of the long weekend.
“The things about roads is they all connect together,” Father Ian Mabey said.
“So by blessing this one, we’re blessing all of them.”
The Blessing of the Roads is a statewide community road safety campaign held in the lead up to and during the Easter long weekend, when many people travel long distances to visit family, friends or holiday destinations.
Since it was first held in 1999, the event has recognised the dedication and efforts of those who work towards reducing road trauma in WA, and the combined efforts with the community in working towards zero fatalities and injuries on our roads.
It is also an opportunity to remember those who have died or been seriously injured in a road crash, and to drive actions which change these results into the future.
Following the blessing, those in attendance were asked to sign a pledge to drive safely this Easter long weekend.
