A Mandurah Miss Galaxy finalist said the contest has developed her self confidence and had a positive effect on her mental health.
Lisa Bennett would be competing for the crown against 28 other national finalists in the Gold Coast on March 14-17.
If successful, the 25-year-old would compete in the Florida world finals, in July.
Ms Bennett said she was encouraged to enter the competition by her friend at the Perth Modelling Academy.
“We were taught at the modelling course to always say yes to opportunities,” she said. “I looked on the website and thought I would give it a go, and here I am three years later.”
The competition has helped Ms Bennett in more ways than one, she said.

“When I started doing this I didn’t have much confidence...I had a lot of anxiety,” she said. “The Australia Galaxy Pageant is about helping women and it has stayed true to that. It’s helped me with my confidence, speaking and mental health.”
Ms Bennett said she wanted to use her newfound knowledge to help others.
“I want to inspire other girls who are like me,” she said. “It’s about women helping other women.”
The Australia Galaxy website says competitors are judged on five areas that each get an equal 20 percent weight that include photographic, interview, fashion wear, swimwear and evening gown.
The prize for winning Miss Galaxy Australia is a sash, crown and airfare and accommodation in Florida for the International Final.
