Indonesia's largest party has announced its backing for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to run for a second term in next year's presidential election.
Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri made the declaration during a national party meeting on the resort island of Bali.
"The chairwoman of PDI Perjuangan has appointed Joko Widodo as the (party's) candidate for president for 2019-2024," the party announced on Twitter.
PDIP, of which Jokowi is a member, won the most votes in the 2014 parliamentary elections.
Jokowi's likely rival in the election, scheduled for April 17, 2019, is former general Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi narrowly defeated Subianto in 2014's presidential election.
A recent survey by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting showed that 74.3 per cent of Indonesians were satisfied with Jokowi's performance.
