A Mandurah man has pleaded guilty to pointing two guns at a local construction worker and stealing his work ute.
Jared Shayne Mitchell pleaded guilty to 18 charges when he appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court recently, including obstructing public officers and reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.
Mitchell’s girlfriend attended the courtroom in support of the 24-year-old man.
Prosecuting sergeant Nev Palmer told the court that Mitchell drove a stolen Toyota Hilux to Wormal Civil in Madora Bay on August 9, 2017 at about 5pm.
He approached an employee on-site with a single-barrel shotgun and one 12-gauge handgun and said “call the police”.
Mitchell then proceeded to steal the man’s work ute and evaded police in a dangerous pursuit through Mandurah, when the congestion was heavy.
Mr Palmer said he drove through red lights, swerved between traffic, crashed through trees, mounted curbs and almost collided with a vehicle.
When he finally stopped, police found the two guns on his seat and a stolen WA drivers licence.

Ten rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition and anabolic steroids were found in a camouflage backpack in Mitchell’s house.
Mr Palmer said Mitchell also caused a disturbance at the Sebel Mandurah Hotel on November 26, 2016 and “put numbers of the public in danger”.
Mitchell verbally abused the general manager after a dispute over the mini-bar tab and proceeded to drive his vehicle through the front glass of the hotel and performed multiple burnouts until his car slammed into a brick wall, he said.
“There were numbers of people on the footpath on Marco Polo Drive,” Mr Palmer said.
The incident was caught on CCTV.
Mitchell’s licence was suspended at the time of the incident.
Defence lawyer Terry Dobson requested a psychiatric report before sentencing.
“For the benefit of his life and the community, he needs to sort himself out. But we need to have the complete picture,” he said.
Mitchell will be sentenced in Mandurah Magistrates Court on April 6, 2018.
