A Mandurah resident is reflecting on her business of 40-years and the changes the town has seen during this time – before she sells the business to a new owner.
The shop, that specialises in bra and prosthetic fittings and lingerie, is one of the longest-standing family businesses in Mandurah.
Betty Humphries, 86, said there were still residential properties in the town centre and near Smart Street Mall, when she opened Nite Magic.
“The area has changed a lot – there were a lot less stores then,” she said.
The mother, who has lived in Mandurah for 48-years, said the pedestrian mall on Smart Street used to be a road.
Betty’s daughter Vikki Waite said the business had been special to the family, for herself then her children and now her grandchildren.
“My children when they were little would always get excited to run down to nan’s shop,” she said.
“Now they’re 40-years-old and my grandchildren will run down the mall to see nan.”
Vikki said they had teenagers that would visit the store with their mothers who now take their children for fittings.
“It’s lovely,” she said. “Theres no other business that offers this in Mandurah. I guess we’re known for our service and care.”
Maureen Rewi has bought the business and will start on March 1.
Betty’s daughter in-law Lynn Humphries, who has worked at the store for 15 years, will continue as an employee.
“Its nice because there will still be a familiar face for customers,” Betty said.
“We’re happy the customers will still have this place to come.
“They were sad when they thought the shop was going to close but I am happy we can keep a smile on their faces.”
