Mandurah residents were treated to an interesting and entertaining lesson on local history last week at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (MPAC).
Mandurah Milestones and Memories was packed-out with local residents and tourists who traveled to learn about the history of the area.
Narrator David Smeeton walked the audience through the history of Mandurah to the present day.
He used slideshows on a large screen and props made by local school children to tell the story, who positioned the items on stage during the performance.
University of the Third Age (U3A) Mandurah past-president and program coordinator Sheila Twine said the show was “absolutely wonderful”.
“We had a full-house in the afternoon show and there were only a few seats for the evening show,” she said.
“Some people had come down from Perth for the afternoon show.”

MPAC general manager Guy Boyce said the first showing last August sold-out, so it had to be brought back for round two.
“Mandurah Milestones and Memories is a wonderful witty illumination of Mandurah’s historical past,” Mr Boyce said.
“I thought I knew this place, but this presentation opened my eyes to the colourful personalities of Mandurah down the years.
Ms Twine said a group from Coolibah Total Caring Services retirement village and Settlers Lifestyle attended the show.
She said The Taste of Scotland will be the next MPAC show that U3A will be involved with.
“It will be all about Scotland – the literature, dancing, music and historical battles,” she said.
“There will even be haggis offered during the interval!”
Ms Twine said there was five members of U3A with Scottish heritage, who would all be narrators in the performance.
David Smeeton will be the host.
The Taste of Scotland will be held on Friday, April 27 at the Fish Trap Theatre.
Cost of entry is $15.
Tickets can be purchased at the MPAC box office or by going online to www.manpac.com.au.
