Mandurah's K9 Rescue Group will open their doors to the community during their inaugural ‘Adopt a dog day’ on January 20.
While the volunteer-based organisation has held a celebration to officially open their new building, K9 publicist and volunteer Janine Matthews said staff had seen the need for a special event.
The rescue centre in Nambeelup will be alive with activity on the day, with stalls, dog washes, family activities including a bouncy castle and a sausage sizzle.

K9’s dog training Lisa Paterson said she looked forward to the day because it was a chance for the centre to show off all the hard work that goes into each dog.
“We’re trying to get people to the kennels to see the longer term dogs, the ones that are harder to re-home,” she said.
Ms Matthews said recently a number of dogs had been returned to the centre for various reasons.
She said making sure owners “clicked” with the dog was essential to ensuring they were re-homed, long term.
Ms Matthews said the special adoption day would provide people a chance to get to know the dogs better, prior to adoption.
All dogs that are adopted with serious health issues have ongoing free medical care through K9.
The rescue centre will also use the day to fund-raise for new equipment and to upgrade and maintain their services.
Ms Paterson said a volunteer induction day would be held a week after the special event. She encouraged interested members of the public to consider joining their volunteer team and welcomed enquiries on the day.
The centre is also looking for stall holders to take part in the day, with a registration cost of $25.
Ms Matthew made special mention to Murphy’s Irish Pub, Pet City and Jolly Jumps.
The event will be held on January 20.
