A Dawesville resident and animal lover will jump off the Port Bouvard Bridge in December to raise funds to prevent animal cruelty.
Rebekah Clune is one of many Mandurah locals ready to take a leap during the Dawesville Bridge Swing.
The charity swing hopes to raise funds for not-for-profit organisations Cancer Council WA, RSPCA, Red Nose, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and Gilbert’s Potoroo Action Group.
Ms Clune said she had previous raised money for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), as it was a charity close to her heart.
So far Ms Clune has raised $940, which was well above her initial target of $750.
Ms Clune has now set her sights on reaching her new goal of $1200.
The Dawesville Bridge swing event, which is organised by the not-for-profit Urban Descent, has been two years in the making and will become a West Australian-first.
This event is the first legal bridge swing in WA, and runs from December 8-10 at Port Bouvard Bridge.
Urban Descent will offer two swings to participants who hit $1200 in fundraising.
Ms Clune urged the community to get behind the cause and donate what they could.
After seeing the event advertised on Facebook, Ms Clune decided to register.
“Because I’m local to Dawesville and a bit of an adventure seeker, I sort of thought it would be right up my alley,” she said.
“I’ve always known about RSPCA. I thought it was a good cause to raise money for.”
She thanked her friends, family and colleagues for supporting her fund raising efforts.
“I’ve still got under a month to raise more money, so I’m hoping to get to the next target, which is $1200,” she said.
“Everyone wants to know when it’s kicking off so they can come down and watch it. Everyone is pretty excited about it.
“It hasn’t happened before in Mandurah or even in WA, for it to be here it’s a pretty crazy event.”
Despite only having bungee jumped once when she was 17, Ms Clune said she wasn’t nervous about the stunt.
“I’m more excited than nervous,” she said.
“I’m a bit of a thrill seeker so i’m pretty excited to swing off it [the bridge].”
