The man, who cannot be named, is accused of indecently dealing with his former step-son.
He is also accused of aggravated assault on the same child.
The offences are alleged to have happened in the Murray Shire between May 5, 2016 and August 31, 2016.
The accused, whose earliest release date is not until 2019, said he knew nothing about the fresh charges.
Magistrate Anne Longden said the statement of facts would be sent to him and he was advised to contact a lawyer for legal advice.
