Applications are now open for Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah’s artist programs, which hope to find new talents and broaden their creative skills.
The Mandurah-based gallery runs three different programs every year, the Exhibition Program, the Artist in Residency Program and the Tiny Treasures Christmas Artists’ Sales exhibition.
All three programs hope to expand the artistic knowledge of both local and visiting emerging artists and provide them with a platform to promote their work.
Mayor Marina Vergone said the arts, culture and heritage sector was a very important aspect of the community, and she said the City of Mandurah was delighted to provide capacity building opportunities for emerging artists.
“Artist mentoring is a key aspect of learning and growth for artists and it’s great to see our local arts sector continue to grow through opportunities like this,” she said.
“We’re encouraging artists to take advantage of these exciting opportunities at CASM that will help artists explore and develop their skills and passion.”
The Exhibition Application Program encourages emerging artists to apply for exhibition space as a solo artist, or within an artist group.
Each exhibition generally runs over four weekends and, on average, attracts between 500 to 800 visitors.
The CASM Studio Residency program offers the opportunity for two emerging artists to use onsite studio spaces to research and develop a new body of work.
Artists have 16 hours per day access to the studios and can apply for three to 12 month residencies.
At the end of the residency period, the resident artists are able to present a solo exhibition at CASM.
Applications are also open for inclusion in the Tiny Treasures Christmas Artists’ Sale.
This stunning, curated exhibition requires artists to create original, high quality artworks no larger than 30cm to a value of $300 or less.
The past two years have seen the exhibition sell up to $21,000 of stock during the five-week exhibition period.
Every year, CASM provides exciting capacity building opportunities for both local Mandurah and non- local artists.
The gallery runs nine exhibitions every year supporting local, state, national and international artists.
During the 2016-2017 exhibition period, CASM exhibited the works of 117 artists displaying contemporary artworks including textiles, sculpture, ceramics, installation, drawing, printmaking, painting and jewellery.
Applications are now open for the annual Exhibition Program, the Artist Residency Program and the Tiny Treasures Christmas Artists’ Sales exhibition.
