The Dudley Park Bowling Club will play host to some of the top lawn bowlers in the country when it holds Australia’s largest paying singles tournament this October.
A total prize pool of $64,000 will attract hundreds of competitors and spectators to Mandurah for the Everest of Bowls championships.
The largest event of its kind across the country, the tournament is set to attract national big name bowlers including Karen Murphy, Nathan Rice, Brett Wilkie, Ben Twist, Jeremy Henry and Aaron Teys.
Dudley Park Bowling Club bowls director Don Nash said the spectacle would a boon for the wider community.
“With $64,000 up for grabs it’s going to attract not only the competitors, but plenty of people outside the games that will be coming to the city,” he said.
“The City of Mandurah has been very accommodating for us and we’re looking forward to a big event.”
Nash said landing the tournament was a coup for the local club, which was honoured to showcase its greens to the country’s top crop.
“In terms of prize money and the skill that will be on show, it’s the largest event we’ve ever been able to hold at the club,” he said.
“It’s really exciting for us to be able to put something like this on, so we encourage everyone to get down and check out the action.”
A total 64 competitors will hit the turfs for the event, with the winner set to take home a whopping $50,000.
Second place will be rewarded $10,000, with equal third to share in $2000 each.
The tournament kicks off on Thursday, October 12 and wraps up on the Sunday, October 15.
