Mr McGowan met with member for Murray-Wellington Robyn Clarke and member for Mandurah David Templeman on Friday morning to present the new budget, which will see $138 million being invested in the region.
He said the government had committed $55.5 million for local projects within their Plan for Jobs, including the development of Nambeelup, Kemerton and Shotts Industrial Park.
The project is expected to diversify the local economy and to create new employment opportunities to tackle the region’s high unemployment rates.
The government has also committed $4.5 million towards the New Industries Fund, an initiative which funds start-ups and upcoming industries, and $27.9 million in tourism funding with a focus on WA’s regions.
“Our commitment to the Peel region is to ensure we develop and deliver projects that will create jobs and opportunities for locals as well as improve important services such as health and education,” the Premier said.
“The government will provide ongoing support to enable the Peel region to continue to grow into the future.
“In addition to key infrastructure projects, I’m pleased we’re also investing in other initiatives such as destination marketing to diversify our economy.
“Peel is a destination in its own right and a growing region that will benefit from tourism efforts - attracting visitors and creating jobs.”
The Royalties for Regions grant program will also receive a total of $4 billion in funding to be spent in projects across WA.
During his visit to the region, the Premier met with community members to discuss important issues in their local areas.
