Solar panels, fixed sun control louvres and drip irrigation systems are only some of the environmental hacks Mandurah’s home owners are using to make their homes greener.
On September 17, three homes in Mandurah the region will open their doors to the public and share their environmentally-friendly tips and tricks with curious community members to celebrate Sustainable House Day.
Mandurah residents wanting to learn more about sustainable home practices will have the chance to visit the homes and speak to their owners for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to not-for-profit organisations.
Sustainable House Day was created in 2001 as a national event to inspire people to live more sustainably by opening Australia’s best environmental homes to the public.
The event aims to educate people on how to live comfortably while helping the environment through good home design, practices and technology.
Wannanup home owner Sarah Love will open her home on Bannister Court, Wannanup from 10am to 2pm.
Mandurah owner Margaret Clark will open her two homes in central Mandurah, The Rare Gem Unit and Unlimited Potential, from 10am to 3pm.
Visitors to the event must register through the Sustainable House Day website to obtain the addresses of open houses.
