Due to bad weather hitting Mandurah in recent weeks, Mandurah Terrace will remain closed to the public for a longer period of time to allow for the new bridge tie-in works to be completed.
Works to connect the new bridge to Pinjarra Road started on July 31, with Mandurah Terrace scheduled to open again on August 28.
However, due to wet weather slowing down construction works, Mandurah Terrace will remain closed until mid-September.
“Construction works slow significantly during wet weather,” the City of Mandurah said.
“In particular, the new asphalt cannot be laid in excessive wet weather, which means the original re-opening date for Mandurah Terrace on August 28 cannot be met.”
During that time, the Old Mandurah Traffic Bridge and Pinjarra Road will remain open, with businesses along Mandurah Terrace still operating.
Detours are currently in place via Sholl Street and Tuckey Street.
The City of Mandurah said they were working with Main Roads WA and Georgiu to make up the lost time where possible, allocating additional resources and working on Saturdays.
They said it is likely that a pedestrian access over the new bridge will be available from early September, with Mandurah Terrace and the new bridge opening to vehicles later on.
Mandurah chief Mark Newman thanked businesses, road users, pedestrians and the wider community for their patience and understanding during this road closure period.
“Unfortunately, the recent bad weather has resulted in a small delay in the roadworks, and thus the re- opening Mandurah Terrace, and we apologise for any additional inconvenience this may cause for businesses and the community,” he said.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their understanding, and we are pushing ahead to make sure the bridge connection works are finished as soon as possible.
“We’d like to also thank everyone that has continued to visit local businesses along Mandurah Terrace while the road has been closed, and making the effort to come along to the successful Winter Wonderland event on the eastern foreshore.”
