Mandurah was hit by an art blizzard this week, with white snow flakes starting to coat the windows of businesses and cafes around the foreshore area.
The artwork is a creation by Mandurah-based graphic designer Goli Paymani, and hopes to bring the winter spirit to Mandurah and get residents in the mood for the upcoming Winter Wonderland.
Ms Paymani started the project on Tuesday morning, and has already decorated several windows of popular businesses and eateries along Mandurah Terrace with a strip of white snow flakes.
She said the design represented snow flakes in the wind, with every flake having completely different and unique designs.
“There’s a million different snowflakes out there, they don’t look like each other,” she said.
“It’s like people, people are not like each other, we are all individual but coming together.
“It’s our community, we are all linked together, we all work together.”
She said the project had received a very positive feedback so far, with some shop owners wanting to keep the artwork on their windows for the whole winter period.
“It’s good to see it makes people smile and some people actually walk past and say ‘oh, we don’t see hand sign writing anymore, this is nice’,” she said.
“We don’t get snow over here and I think the kids will love it to see the snowflakes.”
The graphic designer, who spends her time juggling between being a mother and having her own business, said Mandurah’s Winter Wonderland was a great opportunity to bring some buzz to the city.
“Mandurah is beautiful, we just need more activity during the winter time, to make people stay,” she said.
“What I’m doing is just what I’m doing from my heart, for where I live, and if everyone puts a little bit of that effort into the local businesses and the community probably the outcome is going to be wonderful.
“If we all help probably things will happen more often in Mandurah.”
The Winter Wonderland event will take off on Friday next week and will be on until August 27.
During the winter-themed festival, residents will have the opportunity to give ice skating a go, try special winter food from Mandurah’s best restaurants and enjoy live entertainment.
The initiative, which was created by local business owners and space activation group Shape Mandurah, hopes to inject some life into the foreshore during the winter months and activate the area.
Tickets for the event can be bought online.
