Mandurah’s “Action” Jackson England picked up his second professional boxing victory in style with a first-round knockout at Thunderdome 21 in Perth last Friday night.
In just his second pro bout, England was able to land a thumping right hand blow followed by a flurry of punches to end opponent Budi Risky’s night in the first round.
The victory is a significant one as the Mandurah-based boxer looks to make his mark in WA’s pro circuit.
Risky boasted much more experience at the level than England, with a record of 14 fights consisting of eight knockouts.
England stressed the importance of going into the fight with a patient approach against a tough hitter, saying he didn’t want to underestimate his opponent.
“Going in I was really weary of what he could do,” he said.
“The footage I’d seen of him punching showed he was a hard hitter, so I didn’t want to go in thinking I could just go straight at him early on.
“I waited for an opportunity and took it, hit him with some nice jabs and was able to tear him apart pretty early.”
The win is England’s second professional victory from as many bouts, as he continues to climb the ranks in WA.
But despite stunning results in his first two fights, England remained humble, heaping praise on his coach and thanking his string of supporters.
“Two from two is a great start and it really does make you feel like your getting to where you want to be, but it’s still early days,” he said.
“Without my coach Jay Gray I wouldn’t be where I am and wouldn’t be able to fight the way I have in my first two,” he said.
“Along with him and everyone that travels up from Mandurah to give me their support, I can’t thank them enough.”
England will look to fight in Thunderdome 22 this October.
