Keeping warm in winter is difficult, but even more so for Mandurah’s needy.
That’s why local Tracey Walley has embarked on a mission to clothe as many homeless and needy people as possible this winter.
Ms Walley will be at George Robinson Gardens – opposite Woolworths Mandurah Central – from 8.30am on Thursday June 15, accepting coats and jackets from whoever who’d like to donate them.
“I saw the idea come up in Mandurah, and I just thought, ‘Oh, that would be a great idea here’.
“There’s always some people who really struggle through this time of the year, so I just thought it would be a good way to help out.”
Ms Walley posted the idea to social media, and has been pleasantly surprised by the support she’s received.
“I put it up and people really liked the idea,” she said.
“There’s a few businesses and organisations that are getting behind it also.
“It’s been great to see people really get behind it, because it’s an idea we can work on a small basis, within the community.
“I now have a group of people helping me out I can’t believe the support and wonderful offers that have been made to help make this a success.
“I’ve had more than 900 comments on the posts. I’m just hoping that translates to people showing up and donating.”
Ms Walley has asked for donations of no more than two to three coats per person, clean and preferable in good condition. She has also asked for coat hangers to be provided.
