A pair of Peel-based swim clubs have returned back to the region from the annual Country Pennants in Kalgoorlie with plenty of success to show for it.
Members of the Peel Aquatic Club and Pinjarra Swim Club smashed record in their respective grades and came home with a bundle of new silverware.
Having previously teamed up with the Boddington Swim Club to attend the event, 2017 was the first time the Pinjarra Swim Club was able to compete individually.
They fielded 18 swimmers in the event, claiming the highest points total in their division and being moved up a grade for the 2018 event.
Maryanne Vunikura broke the record in the girls under 11s 50m freestyle, Maddie Jardine broke the record in girls under 16 50m breaststroke and Mikaylah Jones broke records in women’s 17 and over 50m in freestyle and 50m backstroke.
In total, the club achieved a whopping 48 gold, 17 silver and two bronze medals.
Peel Aquatic Club also picked up stunning results, with their 30 swimmers taking on the best of the best in A-division.
The club picked up 37 gold, 24 silver and 21 bronze medals on their way to finishing second overall.
Heidi Gstaettner, Melanie Lucas, Jorja Lymm, Grace Walton and Megan Lamour broke records in four different age groups.
Christopher Collins, Melanie Lucas, Grace Walton, Finlay Lamour, Ryan Spencer, Jorja Lymm, Jennifer Rollin-Busby and Megan Lamour all finished in the top six times of the meet.
Next year, the Country Pennants will be held in Mandurah, with the Peel Aquatic Club set to host the event.
The club is also holding a swim meet on Saturday, March 25.
