Frederick Irwin Anglican School year 10 student, Keigan Williams, recently represented the country as the youngest member of the Senior Sporting Shooters Association of Australia team for the 2016 Pacific Regional Shooting Competition, held from November 8 to 13 in Canberra.
Keigan achieved four silver medals (two individual and two team) and two bronze medals (one individual and one team) at the competition and also broke an Australian junior record for the NRA 3P kneeling position.
He was also a nominee for the junior sportsperson of the year for the WA Shooting Association.
Keigan said that to represent his country in a sport that he loves is was his proudest moment.
“The day I received my SSAA Australian Uniform was the proudest moment of my life so far and it is a moment I will always cherish,” he said.
“Like any other junior sportsman or woman, my biggest dream is to represent Australia at the Commonwealth and Olympic games.
“I know that this is aiming really high, but it is important to have aspirations and dreams to inspire us to train hard and to always do our best in our sport.
“I have a lot to learn but I am fortunate to have very supportive coaches and mentors in the sport and owe them a lot of gratitude for taking me under their wings and teaching me all that they know.”
Keigan is a member of the Port Bouvard Small Bore and Pistol Club as well as the Southern Districts Rifle Club, and is currently preparing for the 2017 National Championship in April.
