Peel region locals Tanya Langford and Nerida Mills believe hiking, mediating and relating to one another can help local women thrive and feel empowered.
Ms Langford and Ms Mills have embarked in a new project, Wyld Women Tribe, to bring the region’s women together in a series of bush retreats in Peel’s Dwellingup forest, to help them unwind, relax and connect with one another.
“It gives women time out of their busy lives to honour their personal wellbeing within a supportive sisterhood,” Peel Youth Services family officer Tanya Langford said.
“We welcome all women to join in, share their stories, laughter and tears.”
Ms Langford said it’s all about de-stressing, re-energising, reflecting, connecting and thriving in a nature setting through activities such as talking, meditating, walking and practising yoga.
Their ultimate goal, however, is to help women build real pathways to their goals and life aspirations while benefiting from nature.
Ms Langford said the initiative is the first of its kind in the Peel region, and one of the first ones in Western Australia.
The group’s first Women’s Wellness retreat will take place at the Dwellingup Forest Reserve from March 31 to April 2, with accommodation provided at the Jarrah Forest Lodge.
During the retreat, attendees will be able to enjoy the beauty of the West Australian bush while hiking along the Bibbulmun Track before learning about techniques to enhance their daily life from Ms Langford and Ms Mills.
Ms Langdon said she hopes to assist women in building their self-worth and inner strength through her experience as a family worker helping victims of abuse.
While Ms Mills hopes to bring mindfulness to their daily life through her knowledge of meta dynamics and neurolingustic programming.
“I absolutely believe that it is women that must drive the change into the future,” Ms Mills said.
Wyld Women Tribe are also running a competition for women interested in taking part in the group's first retreat.
Participants can sign in for the competition through the group’s Facebook page of by going to their online participation form and write why do they think they need a bush retreat.
The winner of the competition will win a free retreat ticket and the three runner-ups a discounted half price ticket.
