Plans for a new high school in Lakelands are advancing, with the school expected to open in 2019.
The school will accommodate 1450 students, and will also include specialist facilities for 85 students with disability.
A spokeswoman from the education department said the intake area is yet to be confirmed.
“All or parts of the localities of Lakelands, Madora Bay, Meadow Springs and Singleton may form the local-intake area”, she said.
The school will be built in two stages.
The first stage will include the construction of an administration block, student services area, education support learning area, sports hall, design and technology workshops, food studios, science classrooms, general classrooms, cafeteria, library, lecture theatre, performing arts, visual arts, hard courts and parking.
The second stage of the build will include two general classroom areas, the remaining hard courts and additional parking.
A major feature of the school includes areas of public open space, to be used by both the school and the wider community, including local sporting clubs like the North Mandurah Football Club.
The education department spokeswoman said the new secondary school was needed to support the expected growth in student numbers in the area.
“It will provide relief to neighboring schools... as well as provide a local school for the developing area,” she said.
“The new school will also provide high level specialist facilities required to support students with disability and high needs in the Mandurah area.”
