Mandurah foreshore will come to life on Saturday morning to celebrate Kiwi culture and heritage during this year’s Waitangi Day.
The family-friendly event will include dancing performances, food and craft stalls, and entertainment for all ages.
The event will kick off at 9am with a Karakia and Acknowledgement to Country, followed by a singing performance of New Zealand’s traditional anthem in Maori.
After the anthem, representatives from each stall will sing Pokarekare Ana before Persuasion Trio, Maori Culture Group, Hula Group, Mandurah Pirates, Shy Kristy Due and The Happy Cannivals take over the stage.
Waitangi Day celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, when in 1840 the British Empire guaranteed Maori rights to their land and established the Maori people as independent citizens.
It is now celebrated by New Zealanders worldwide as a day of significance to the Land of the Long White Cloud.
The day is a celebration of traditional Maori culture, contemporary New Zealand heritage and a chance for anyone and everyone to get a taste of Kiwi life.
