The Liberal party has chosen its candidate to run in the seat of Mandurah after the resignation of its former candidate David Forbes.
Local businesswoman and registered nurse Lynne Rowlands will contest the seat after Mr Forbes resigned when details of his social media posts were revealed.
She said she had chosen to put herself forward as a candidate because of the Liberal party’s support for small business.
“I am a small business owner and I stand for the Liberals because they stand behind small business,” she said.
Ms Rowlands identified the fight against methamphetamine and the Liberal party’s announcement of $5 million to increase the capacity of the Mandurah Police Station as issues she would be campaigning on.
She said as a registered nurse she had been involved in helping people deal with their meth addictions.
“I’ve personally dealt with the meth epidemic – it’s not a nice thing for the patient, and definitely not a nice thing for everyone else involved,” she said.
“I’ve seen first hand how it effects the family, police officers, doctors, nurses and everyone who cares for them, including permanent carers.”
She said she was also interested in protecting the local environment.
“We live in a beautiful environment and we want to keep it that way,” she said.
Ms Rowlands ran unsuccessfully for Mandurah City council in 2014.
