Postgraduate Law student Aeron Blundell-Camden has been selected as the Greens candidate for Dawesville in the 2017 State election.
As a former Mandurah based school psychologist, Mr Blundell-Camden wants to ensure adequate government funding for Mandurah's public schools, and for mental health issues to be given much greater priority.
“Every child in Dawesville deserves to receive a high-quality, world-class education,” he said.
“Education funding should be one of the state government’s highest priorities and regarded as a vital investment rather than a budgetary burden.
“I’m deeply concerned with the alarmingly high rates of suicide, mental illness and substance dependence within our community. It is extremely disappointing that very little action has been taken by the current or previous state governments to properly address these very serious issues.”
Mr Blundell-Camden said he was also eager to see a significant upgrade to the region’s public transport infrastructure.
“Implementation of the Greens’ Transit City transport plan would see a much needed Bus Rapid Transit line extend from Dawesville to Mandurah Station via Falcon and Halls Head.”
A vocal critic of the ill-conceived Roe 8 project, Mr Blundell-Camden also supports the proposed Kwinana Outer Harbour.
“This development would create many job opportunities for the greater Mandurah area, especially with an improvement in public transport, and is a far better option for our environment and future port needs.”
Mr Blundell-Camden previously ran for the seat of Canning in the 2016 federal election against Liberal Andrew Hastie.
