Legends Australia is an organisation established in 1997 set up to promote friendship within the game of darts for players over the age of 45.
The group, originally started at the Coolbellup Tavern, now spans over six branches – Belmont, Northern Suburbs, Mandurah, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and Fremantle.
The Mandurah Legends club was started in March 2009 to accommodate the growing base of keen darts players who wanted a more social setting.
Mandurah has, at present, 40 registered local members, with events regularly drawing members from other branches.
Games are held one Sunday each month at the Silver Sands Tavern, starting at 9.30am and finishing at about 4pm.
The format for each day is dependent on the numbers present, and teams can be comprised of singles, mixed teams, doubles or mixed doubles.
The Mandurah group also holds its own team, doubles, mixed doubles and singles championships, separate from the full WA Legends Championships.
Each member pays a small annual fee of $20 to help towards the cost of staging national and state events, as well as an end-of-year wind-up and awards night.
Registration with Darts Western Australia (DWA) is mandatory, and a small separate fee of $25 applies if you aren’t already registered.
Registration with the DWA and the local Legends club allows members to take part in any Legends event in Australia.
A small playing fee of $5 is required to cover costs at each event.
An annual national championship is held on a rotational basis.
New members can trial one of Mandurah’s events (except championships) for one month with no registration fees required.
To play in the championships, members will have needed to play at least one game with the local Legends club.
The venue supplies food, with tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages available.
