While the race to become US president caught the eye of the world on Wednesday, another race captured the attention of Mandurah students.
The third annual Great Race saw students from the Halls Head College and John Tonkin College education support centres scatter the streets of Mandurah for the team building event.
Hosted by Halls Head College, the Great Race sees students interact with local businesses and community members as they follow clues to lead them to the finish line.
In teams, students are challenged to complete a wide variety of tasks incorporating english, maths, history and science.
The overarching goal of the day is for students to develop and implement key life skills, according to Halls Head College teacher John Barker.
“The day is all about teaching the students things like communication, persistence and resilience,” he said.
“This is the first year we’ve had another school join in with us and we hope to make it a complete inter-school event in the coming years.
“More sponsors are coming on board with Alcoa, San Churros and the City of Mandurah really lending us a hand this year.”
